Cannabis can be administered by a variety of routes, including edibles, vaporizing or smoking dried buds, eating extracts, and taking capsules. Medical cannabis is commonly used to relieve anxiety, nausea, vomiting, and appetite loss sometimes caused by HIV infection or by medications used to treat HIV. Research has consistently found that these side effects are the leading reason patients interrupt or discontinue antiretroviral therapy (ART). Cannabis and cannabinoids (THC) used as medical therapy has also been used to reduce or alleviate the symptoms of nausea and vomiting in chemotherapy patients. The Cannibus plant has a history of medicinal use dating back thousands of years across many cultures.
